Dental Cleanings

A bearded older gentleman smiling in the dentist chair ready for a dental cleaning Regular dental cleanings are beneficial and help improve your oral health. When you come see us at Forest Grove Dental Studio, our dental team will provide for you the appropriate dental cleaning based on your oral health needs. We offer different levels of cleanings; the cleanings differ and what you will need depends on the extent of plaque and tartar accumulation there is on your teeth. Discussing the different options available with our dentist, Dr. Jonathan Faris, is important and useful in deciding what kind of cleaning is most appropriate for you.

Prophylaxis Cleaning

This is also known as a routine dental cleaning. It involves removal of all plaque from your teeth, going deeper and getting the hardened plaque known as calculus, and even removing all of the stains that may have formed on the surface of the teeth. This is the procedure to maintain healthy teeth and not to be done on already damaged teeth. Ensure that you maintain daily oral hygiene like brushing and flossing of the teeth. This type of cleaning should be done every six months to ensure that plaque has not accumulated for long.

Root Planing and Scaling

Root planing and sclaing is also referred to as a deep cleaning and is done for patients who are likely to have gum disease or even those who have already developed gingivitis or any level of gum disease. Accumulation of plaque and tartar for long without a dental cleaning will cause severe gum disease and additional serious oral health problems. If you realize that you are developing gum disease, ensure that you immediately see our dentist so that root planing and scaling can be done before plaque develops into tartar.

Gross Debridement

Gross debridement is a dental cleaning procedure where the dentist checks to determine if there are oral health issues that were not detected during a regular dental cleaning. This is a type of cleaning for those who have not visited the dentist for over a year and those who have tartar and plaque on the surface of their teeth. First, the dentist will remove all the plaque and tartar that is on the teeth. The length of this procedure generally takes a short period. If the plaque and tartar that have built up are large, then this procedure might take longer.

Routine Dental Cleanings in CITYSTATE

Routine dental cleanings and deep cleanings are an important part of dental health. The American Dental Association recommends that you should see a dentist at least twice a year for routine dental cleanings and exams. Our dentist will determine the type of cleaning that will best suit you after checking on the plaque and tartar buildup in your mouth.
